Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 5 Results: Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh bag silver for India; boxers confirm three more medals

India won two medals on July 28, taking its total tally to 12 medals

India picked up two more silvers on day five of the Commonwealth Games 2026, and both came with a bit of history attached.

Gulveer Singh crossed the line in 27:49.78 to finish second in the men’s 10,000m, a result that awarded India its first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the event.

Not far behind in significance was Harjinder Kaur’s silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting, built on a personal-best snatch of 101kg.

The boxers had a solid outing too. Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, and Jadumani Singh all won their quarter-finals to reach the semis, which means three more medals are already locked in for India.

It wasn’t a clean sweep for the boxing contingent, though, as Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya both fell just short at the same stage.

There was a low point in the weightlifting hall as well. Nirupama Devi Seram couldn’t convert a promising 93kg snatch into a podium finish after failing all three attempts in the clean & jerk, becoming the first Indian lifter at these Games to go home empty-handed.

Women’s high jump, swimming, and para-swimming were quieter days too, with none of India’s entrants able to break into the medal positions.
