Australia won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by defeating India in the finals on Sunday.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 came to a fitting end when two of the best teams of the tournament played the finals against each other at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Though it didn't end the way team India would have wanted, undoubtedly they played some brilliant cricket throughout the competition. This tournament saw some of the big stars step up and perform well for their teams.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Quinton de Kock and many more did what they are known for doing on the field. But apart from that, some youngsters also impressed everyone with their World Cup debuts. In this article, we will talk about players who performed brilliantly in their debut World Cup event.
Five cricketers who impressed everyone in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
1. Rachin Ravindra :

Rachin Ravindra was certainly the player that everyone was talking about because of the way he performed for New Zealand. The left-hander got a chance to bat at the top of the order in the absence of Kane Williamson and made that position his own. He scored 578 runs in 10 innings at an average and strike rate of 64.22 and 106.44, respectively. Rachin also scored three hundreds (most by a Kiwi in a single event) and two half-centuries. He will surely be the star of the future.
2. Shreyas Iyer :

Though Shreyas Iyer is not that young anymore, he surely made the most of the opportunity in his World Cup debut. He didn't have a good outing in the first few games, but then he picked up the pace and went on to become India's most consistent batter in the middle-order. Iyer made 530 runs at 66.25 and a strike rate of 113.24, with two hundreds and three fifties. He became the first batter to score over 500 runs while batting at No. 4 in a ICC Cricket World Cup edition.
3. Dilshan Madushanka :

Sri Lanka went through a nightmare at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They suffered with injuries and bad form. But one player who came as a shining light for them was Dilshan Madushanka. The left-arm pacer was Sri Lanka's main weapon throughout the tournament and dismissed some big names. Madushanka took 21 wickets in nine games and ended up as the third-highest wicket-taker in the competition, and certainly impressed everyone in his first ICC Cricket World Cup.
4. Gerald Coetzee :

Anirch Nortje's injury gave a chance to Gerald Coetzee to feature in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and he showed the world that he belongs to this stage. The fiery pacer was always among the wickets in the eight matches he played. It was not easy for him to make a name for himself in South African pace attack, but his consistency and never-die attitude caught the attention of the world. Coetzee picked up 20 wickets at a brilliant strike rate of 19.05, which is the best among the top wicket-takers.
5. Travis Head :

Last but not least, Travis Head has been fantastic in this tournament. He is one prime reason that Australia won the title. His all-round effort helped them beat South Africa in the semi-finals, followed by a stunning match-winning ton against India made the difference. Head has come a long way and is certainly a future prospect. Not to forget, he slammed a 59-ball ton on his World Cup debut against New Zealand in Dharamsala. Head scored 329 runs at an average and strike rate of 54.83 and 127.51 and won the MOTM award in both the final and semi-final.
