The fifth BGT 2024-25 test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Australia have strengthened their position in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 with victory in the fourth test and a 2-1 lead after first four tests.
While India dominated the series opener in Perth with a comfortable 295-run victory, Australia bounced back at the Adelaide Oval to seal a 10-wicket win in the day-night encounter. The third test in Brisbane was drawn due to the game being impacted heavily by rain.
The hosts dominated India again in the Boxing Day test in Melbourne, winning by 184 runs in the final hour of day 5. Pat Cummins was named Player of the Match for scoring 90 runs and taking six wickets in the game, while Steve Smith led the batting lineup with a brilliant 140-run knock in the first innings.
India put up a strong fight in the first innings, with Nitish Kumar Reddy scoring his maiden test century to reduce the deficit to 105 runs. In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal battled hard, scoring 82 off 208 balls in an effort to secure a draw. However, the hosts took seven wickets in the final session to secure a famous win.
As the action shifts to Sydney for the fifth test, India will hope for a better performance from their batsmen. The visitors have been bailed out by their lower order twice, in Brisbane and Melbourne, but the senior players Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli are yet to make a significant impact in the series.
On that note, let’s look at how the Indian team have fared at Sydney’s SCG so far in test cricket.
