Josh Hazlewood bowled only one over on day 4 in Brisbane.

Australia were forced to be a bowler short early into day 4 of the Gabba test against India as lanky seamer Josh Hazlewood left the field after bowling only one over.

This is huge jolt for the hosts who are trying to push for a win in the third BGT 2024-25 test and are fighting more with weather and time than with the Indian team.

At lunch on day 4, India are 167/6, trailing by 278 runs in their first innings and needing 79 more runs to avoid the follow-on. Australia are aiming to push for a victory and need to take 14 more Indian wickets. They will have to do their planning without one of their key paceman involved.

Why is Josh Hazlewood not bowling on day 4 of the Gabba test?

The 33-year-old Hazlewood was only able to send down one over on day 4 and then left the field with calf soreness. He was then taken for scans and is unlikely to participate further in the rest of the match.

Hazlewood had discussions with medical staff and coach Andrew McDonald before play and seemed troubled when he was called into the attack, barely touching the 130 KPH mark in his only over.

After bowling one over, he had a chat with captain Pat Cummins, vice-captain Steve Smith and physiotherapist Nick Jones during the drinks break and went off soon.

Cricket.com.au gave an update later on Hazlewood, “An Australian team spokesperson said Hazlewood was suffering from “calf awareness” with the fast bowler set to undergo medical scans to determine the extent of the injury.”

He had missed the second test in Adelaide due to a side strain but recovered from it and started in Brisbane. He has bowled six overs for figures of 1/22, taking the key wicket of Virat Kohli on day 3.
