Watch: Grace Harris smacks a six with a broken bat in ongoing WBBL 2023
Grace Harris recorded the highest individual score in WBBL history of 136*.
Brisbane Heat batter Grace Harris was involved in a hilarious yet impressive moment in her team’s recent clash against Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
Grace Harris smashed the highest individual score in Women’s Big Bash League of 136* in 59 balls, striking at a strike rate of 230.51. She hit 12 boundaries and 11 sixes throughout her innings as Brisbane Heat posted the second-highest total in the tournament, 229 for 7.
During her record-breaking knock, Harris left behind Smriti Mandhana and Ashleigh Gardner to become the highest individual run-scorer in the premier women’s T20 league. India’s Smriti Mandhana had an amazing knock of 114 against Melbourne Renegades in November 2021 in Mackay, while Gardner notched the same score against Melbourne Stars in 2017.
Harris also went past Garner’s tally to hit the most sixes in an innings (11). The latter smashed as many as 10 sixes during her innings.
Grace Harris smokes a massive six despite breaking her bat in the process
During her record-breaking knock, Harris hit a massive six, but it costed her bat in the process. The incident happened just as Harris was readying to face the second ball of the 13th over against Scorchers speedster Piepa Cleary.
Harris acknowledged that her bat was broken and asked for a new one. However, there wasn’t any immediate help from the dug-out, and hence, she decided to continued the play. She was also heard saying, “Stuff it, I’ll still hit it,” when there was no bat replacement available before Cleary rolled her arms.
Cleary’s next ball was smoked over mid-wicket for a six, but in the process, the broken bat was given away, and Harris finally got a new bat to continue her innings.
Heat batter couldn’t hold on to her laughter, along with her opponents on the pitch, following her hilarious act.
