"I haven't signed any official paper yet"- Rahul Dravid reacts to his coaching tenure's extension by the BCCI

On Wednesday, 29th November, BCCI announced the extension of contracts of Rahul Dravid and Co.

Rahul Dravid‘s tenure ended with the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Team India finished as runners-up and couldn’t give a fitting farewell to the head coach. However, with the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 just a few months away, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a decision to extend the contracts for Rahul Dravid and Co.

On Wednesday, the BCCI announced that Dravid, along with the support staff (Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey and T Dilip), will continue with the team for an undefined period. The upcoming tournament will take place in the USA and the West Indies and will start on June 4. However, Dravid said that he hasn’t signed any papers yet for his tenure’s extension.

BCCI yet to give Rahul Dravid official papers for his tenure extension

In a statement released on Wednesday, the BCCI said that Rahul Dravid and Co. have agreed to extend the tenure. Notably, the statement didn’t specify the duration of the tenure’s extension. And now, in an interview to PTI, Dravid said, “It’s announced officially; I haven’t signed anything yet; let the papers come officially from the BCCI.” Batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T. Dilip will also get the extended contract.

Dravid will travel with the team on the South Africa tour as the first assignment in the extended contract. The tour will kick off on December 10, which will have three ODIs, three T20Is, and two tests. The test series will start on December 26. It will be followed by a T20I series against Afghanistan and five-match test series at home against England before the IPL 2024.

However, Dravid has thanked the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to coach the team for an extended period. Dravid became the head coach after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. He replaced Ravi Shastri. Under Dravid, India played the finals of the World Test Championship and World Cup 2023 and were the semi-finalists of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
