IPL 2024 auction: Gujarat Titans sign Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav for 5.8 crores

Right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav has played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023.

Discarded Indian pacer Umesh Yadav is still a trusted soldier for the franchises in Indian Premier League. Right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav will be representing GT in IPL 2024. Umesh Yadav was discarded from India’s limited-overs squad as well as from the red-ball format. Umesh Yadav will be looking to capitalize on this opportunity as a chance to make a comeback on the national side.

36-year-old pacer Umesh Yadav has not played in any international game for India after the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in June 2023. Umesh Yadav had a dismal IPL 2023 season for Kolkata Knight Riders and went wicketless in several games. He was released by KKR in November 2023 and now GT will be using him as a frontline pacer with the new ball. Yadav’s experience will also come in handy for the team. 

Umesh Yadav sold to Gujrat Titans

Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav the IPL 2024 auction at a base price of 2 crores, and he got sold to Gujrat Titans for a whopping price of 5.80 crores. There was a bidding war for Umesh Yadav between SRH ,GT and DC. Sunrisers Hyderabad was the first one to raise the hand for bidding and they went straight up after his name came up under the hammer. Gujarat Titans continued to bid for Umesh and they ultimately rested after getting the Indian pacer into their camp.

Umesh Yadav previously in the IPL

Umesh Yadav has represented 3 different IPL franchises in his career so far. Yadav began his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) and made his debut against Chennai Super Kings at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Umesh picked up Subramaniam Badrinath as his maiden IPL wicket. Apart from playing for Delhi twice, Umesh has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in his IPL career. 

In 14 IPL seasons, Umesh Yadav has played 141 games in the league and has picked up 136 wickets. Umesh Yadav had a fabulous IPL 2022 along with KKR and picked up 16 wickets in 12 games. While in IPL 2023, Umesh Yadav picked up just one wicket in 8 games. Unlike the T20Is, Umesh Yadav’s economy rate in the league has been decent and stands at 8.43 in the 487 overs he has bowled.
