IPL 2024: Most runs, most wickets after final, KKR vs SRH
KKR won the IPL 2024 by defeating SRH in the grand finale in Chennai.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) produced a stunning effort with the ball as they bowled Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) out for just 113 in the grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Chennai on May 26. This is also the lowest total in an IPL final till now.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Hyderabad were off to a horrid start as they lost their in-form openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head with just six runs on the board.
SRH were in all sorts of trouble as Kolkata pacer Mitchell Starc accounted for the wicket of Rahul Tripathi which left them reeling at 21/3 in the fifth over. Hyderabad could not recover from there as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Pat Cummins chipped in with 24 runs and managed to take his side to 113.
For Kolkata, Andre Russell took a three-wicket haul whereas Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana scalped two wickets each.
While chasing just 114, Kolkata batters Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer came out all gun blazing as they dismantled Hyderabad’s bowling attack.
The duo stitched a match-winning partnership of 91 runs in just 44 balls. Gurbaz was dismissed for 39 runs, whereas Venkatesh played a blistering unbeaten innings of 53* (26) as KKR won the one-sided clash by eight wickets.
With this victory, Kolkata ended their campaign on a high note by winning the IPL trophy for the third time. It is to be noted that the Shreyas-led side finished at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with 20 points to their name.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)
After the end of the grand finale between KKR and SRH, we finally got our top five run-getters of the IPL 2024. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap. Kohli amassed 741 runs in 15 matches, which includes five half-centuries and one hundred.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad finished second with 583 runs in 14 games. Despite his brilliant form with the bat, his side couldn’t reach the playoffs. Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag ended his stunning 2024 season with 573 runs. Riyan finished at third position.
Despite having a poor night with the bat in the grand finale against KKR, Hyderabad opener Travis Head ended his campaign at fourth spot. In 15 matches, the SRH opener hammered 567 runs at an average of 40.50.
Rajasthan wicket-keeper batter and captain Sanju Samson finished his campaign in the fifth spot. In 16 matches, Samson smashed 531 runs, which included five half-centuries.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)
Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Harshal Patel won the Purple Cap award for the IPL 2024 edition. Patel scalped 24 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 9.73. Despite his valiant effort, his franchise failed to reach the playoffs.
After taking one wicket against SRH in the final, Kolkata spinner Varun Chakarvarthy ended his impressive campaign at second position with 21 scalps to his name.
With 20 wickets in 13 outings, Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah finished third in the Purple Cap leaderboard. Hyderabad’s left-arm pacer T. Natarajan picked up 19 wickets in 14 matches. He finished in the fourth spot.
After taking two crucial wickets against SRH in the final, JJR fast bowler Harshit Rana finished at fifth position. In the 2024 season, Harshit scalped 19 wickets.
