Akash Deep has been out of action since December 2024.
Indian pacer Akash Deep is set to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) camp for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and will be available for their next game, according to reports.
LSG are set to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next encounter of IPL 2025 on Friday, April 4. The encounter will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Bajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Akash Deep faced a lower back injury during Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024
Notably, Akash has been out of action since December 2024, when he last played for Team India against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. During the test series, the right-arm pacer suffered a lower-back injury that kept him out of the field.
However, the Bengal pacer now has recovered from the injury and has received clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). He is all set to take the reins of the LSG’s pace attack in IPL 2025. Notably, LSG bought Akash Deep for a hefty amount of INR eight crores at the IPL 2025 auction. He will play his first game for LSG.
LSG short of Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan in IPL 2025
Interestingly, LSG have been hit by multiple injuries to their pace attack. For instance, pacer Mayank Yadav is recovering from a toe injury. Another pacer Mohsin Khan has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. Mohsin was replaced by Shardul Thakur in the LSG squad.
In the first three games, Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan have led LSG’s pace attack. LSG lost to Delhi Capitals by one wicket in the first game, but defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in the second game. However, they lost their third game of the season against Punjab Kings by eight wickets.
The Rishabh Pant-led side has won only one game out of three so far in the ongoing tournament. Hence, Akash’s addition will come as a big support to the team. MI look like a strong side in the tournament and Akash will be on focus during the encounter this Friday.
