IPL 2025 auction: 3 players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might target through RTM card
SRH retained Heinrich Klaasen for INR 23 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made the most expensive retention of all teams ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction as they retained Heinrich Klaasen for a whopping INR 23 crore.
Apart from Klaasen, the Kavya Maran-owned franchise have retained Pat Cummins (INR 18 crores), Abhishek Sharma (INR 14 crores), Nitish Kumar Reddy (INR 6 crores) and Travis Head (INR14 crores). With these five capped retentions, the Sunrisers spent INR 75 crore and will enter the IPL 2025 auction with INR 45 crore in their purse and one Right To Match (RTM) card.
As per the retention rule, since SRH have retained five capped players, they can use their one RTM card only on an uncapped player.
In this article, we will discuss the three possible names that Hyderabad can target to utilise their RTM option on at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Three players SRH might target through RTM card at the IPL 2025 auction:
1. Abdul Samad
Abdul Samad, the 23-year-old from Jammu & Kashmir, made his IPL debut in 2020, and since then, he has been with SRH.
The franchise retained him in 2023, and he has been in and out of the team until last year but played all games in 2024. Samad scored 182 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 168.51 in IPL 2024. Overall, he has played 50 games and scored 577 runs at a strike rate of 146.07.
He has been given the role of a finisher and has done well to provide the late impetus to the innings. With him being an uncapped player, the franchise can ponder strongly over using their RTM option on Samad.
2. Akash Singh
Left-arm pacer Akash Singh was part of the Sunrisers setup in IPL 2024. He didn’t play a single game though. Earlier, he has represented Chennai Super Kings (2023) and Rajasthan Royals (2021).
Akash has five wickets in seven IPL matches. He can swing the new ball and his left-arm angle is an advantage.
Akash can bring the ball into the right-hander at a good pace. The youngster has been doing well for Baroda in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, picking up five wickets in four innings. Hence, he can be a good future for the Cummins-led franchise if they get him back through the usage of RTM.
3. Sanvir Singh
Sanvir Singh was picked by the Sunrisers in 2023 for INR 20 lakh. He spent two seasons with the franchise and played six games, with no innings of note.
He is a handy all-rounder but hasn’t got many chances with the team. Sanvir can be a decent pick for the franchise to use their RTM option on.
Though his numbers aren’t encouraging, he can add a lot of value with his power-hitting and medium pace. Sanvir’s attacking instincts suit well to SRH’s batting tempo.
