MS Dhoni was retained by CSK as an uncapped player before IPL 2025 auction.

On Wednesday, February 26, MS Dhoni arrived in Chennai ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Known for revealing his future plans in unexpected ways, the former Indian captain surprised fans with a subtle message on his T-shirt, which read “One last time” in a unique dotted pattern of Morse Code.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for INR 4 crores ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He passed the torch to Ruturaj Gaikwad last year by stepping down as the captain.

Dhoni also has reinvented himself as a lower-order dasher, scoring 161 and 104 runs at strike rate of 221 and 183 in IPL 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL has been speculated by critics and fans for years, especially after he said goodbye to international cricket in 2020. The former Indian captain, however, has always maintained that he will continue to play as long as he enjoys the game.

He is one of the few players who have participated in all the seasons of the tournament since its inception in 2008. Dhoni was part of Rising Pune Supergiants when CSK were suspended from the league in 2016 and 2017.

CSK have strengthened their spin department with high-profile signings in Ravi Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, and Shreyas Gopal and will rely on Dhoni’s experience to guide the attack from behind the stumps.

Fans will hope that Dhoni maintains his explosive form from the last few seasons to light up the competition. Dhoni will be in action on March 23 against Mumbai Indians in CSK’s season opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
