More excitement is up for the fans as Tuesday, April 8, will see two matches being played in the day. For some fans, it’s still unknown that why a double header is scheduled on a weekday – Tuesday. Notably, weekends – Saturdays and Sundays – host double headers in the IPL.
Here’s why two matches will be played on Tuesday, April 8
On Tuesday, April 8, two games will be played in IPL 2025. The first match of the day (afternoon) will be played between Kollkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. While the second game of the day (evening) will be played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mullanpur.
In a rare instance, a double header will be played on a weekday because the KKR vs LSG match was rescheduled from Sunday (April 6) to Tuesday (April 8).
Notably, KKR were set to clash with LSG on Sunday afternoon. However, due to the festival of Ram Navami, the Kolkata police notified the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they couldn’t provide security for the game. Hence, the CAB requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the game and it was approved.
As a result, now the KKR vs LSG game will be played on Tuesday afternoon. This match will be officially known as 19th match of the season.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR are currently placed fifth in IPL 2025 points table with four points. They have won two games and lost two out of four. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant-led LSG have won two games and lost two out of four and are positioned sixth in the standings.
