Sanju Samson has scored 99 runs in three outings in IPL 2025 so far.

After losing two out of three games played so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have received a massive boost as Sanju Samson is set to lead the side in remainder of the tournament.

The champions of inaugural edition of the IPL were led by Riyan Parag in their first three matches of IPL 2025 as their full-time captain Samson wasn’t cleared for wicket-keeping. Hence, he opted to play as Impact Player of the side, giving the captaincy reins to Riyan.

Now in a major boost to the franchise, Samson has been cleared to keep wickets in the tournament by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE), which means he will return to lead the side as well in the remainder of the tournament.

Notably, due to an injury to his index finger during the T20I series against England earlier this year and the subsequent surgery forced Samson not to do wicket-keeping duties. Since he is now cleared to keep wickets, he will be seen leading RR as well in their forthcoming clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The encounter will take place on Saturday, April 5, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

Riyan Parag captained RR in their first three games of IPL 2025

All-rounder Riyan Parag led RR in their first three games of IPL 2025. Dhruv Jurel took the role of the wicket-keeper. Notably, after RR’s third game, Samson flew to Bengaluru to visit the BCCI CoE from Guwahati, where doctors allowed him to resume wicket-keeping duties.

Notably, Samson made a stunning start to IPL 2025 with a superb half-century (66) in RR’s first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Later, he got out for 13 and 20 in the next two clashes. He played as an opener in all three games.

RR take seventh spot in the points table

The IPL 2022 runners-up are currently placed seventh in the points table post a dismal start in IPL 2025. They have won one match and lost two out of three games and have two points to their name.

They lost the opening game against SRH by 44 runs and the next game against KKR by eight wickets. However, Royals made a comeback in the third clash against CSK to register their first victory of the season by six runs. Now, with Sanju Samson’s return as the captain, RR are expected to showcase a better performance in the forthcoming games.
