DC bought KL Rahul for INR 14 crores in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction brought significant changes to Delhi Capitals (DC). The franchise parted ways with their long-time superstar Rishabh Pant before the auction. Pant joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a record-breaking fee of INR 27 crores.

Delhi, after failing to acquire Shreyas Iyer and reacquire Rishabh Pant, then successfully bought KL Rahul for a budget price of INR 14 crores. Rahul’s inclusion is expected to bring much-needed stability to DC’s batting top-order.

Rahul will also add experience to a young DC batting order consisting of Jake Fraser McGurk, Abhishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs. His ability to consistently rack up over 400 runs per season makes him a perfect anchor for the likes of Axar Patel, Harry Brook and Stubbs to play around him aggressively.

KL Rahul on his move to Delhi Capitals

Speaking about his move, Rahul, who was released by Lucknow Super Giants, shared an emotional moment with DC co-owner Parth Jindal, expressing his excitement and expectations from the franchise.

Jindal spoke with Rahul after the mega auction and revealed what the cricketer told him.

Jindal revealed to ESPNcricinfo that Rahul told him, “I just want to play cricket. I just want to get the love and support from the franchise. I just want to get the respect, and I know Parth, from you, I will get that. I just can’t be more excited to play for a friend. Let’s make Delhi win. I have never won (the IPL). Delhi has never won. Let’s do it together.

KL Rahul has been one of the most consistent players in the IPL. Having played for several franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants, the Indian opener has scored 4683 runs in 132 games at an impressive average of 45.46. He has hit four centuries and 37 fifties in the league.

Rahul won the Orange Cap (highest run scorer) in 2020, scoring 670 runs across 14 games with an average of 55.83.
