Australia will be without their regular captain Pat Cummins in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Australia stand as the most successful nation in world cricket. Their dominance, which dates back several decades, has seen them win six ICC Cricket World Cups, two ICC Champions Trophies, and one ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and one ICC World Test Championship title.

Drawn in group B of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Aussies have suffered massive setbacks before the start of the tournament.

They have been hit with multiple injury concerns ahead of the tournament. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Marsh have all been ruled out due to respective injuries, while Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis will miss the event due to personal reasons and ODI retirement respectively.

To add more to their woes, their recent performances in the ICC Champions Trophy have been underwhelming as well, having not won a single match in the tournament’s last two editions. On that note, let’s take a look at the last time they won a match in the ICC Champions Trophy.

When was the last time Australia won a match in the ICC Champions Trophy ?

Australia’s last victory in the ICC Champions Trophy came in the final of the 2009 edition at Centurion, where they defeated arch-rivals New Zealand by six wickets to claim the title.

Australia restricted the Kiwis to a small total of 200 in the first innings. Shane Watson then led the charge with an unbeaten 105 off 129 balls, guiding the Aussies to back-to-back Champions Trophy titles.

Since then, Australia have not won a game in their next six games in the tournament. They faced defeats against England and Sri Lanka, while their match against New Zealand in 2013 was washed out.

The 2017 edition was even more unfortunate for Australia. The Aussies saw their first two games of the campaign against New Zealand and Bangladesh washed out due to rain. They then suffered a 40-run defeat against England in Birmingham.

Australia will start their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against England on February 22 in Lahore. The team management will hope to turn around their unwanted record in the competition.
