Ravi Shastri opined on Indian fast bowlers following loss in the first test against South Africa.

Following India’s disheartening loss to South Africa in the Boxing Day test, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has urged the inclusion of left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh in the test squad. Shastri highlighted Arshdeep’s impressive swing bowling skills and his recent success in the ODI series against South Africa. He believes the young pacer could provide much-needed balance to India’s pace attack, especially in overseas conditions.

Shastri expressed concern over the absence of a reliable third seamer in the team. While acknowledging the experience of Bumrah and Siraj, he stressed the significant void left by the absence of Shami. Shastri sees Arshdeep as the solution to this problem.

Ravi Shastri wants Arshdeep Singh to be included

Arshdeep Singh’s ability to swing the ball, particularly away from right-handers, has caught Shastri’s attention. The left-arm pacer showcased his skills during the recent ODI series against South Africa.

Shastri, speaking on Star Sports, highlighted Arshdeep’s crucial role as a swing bowler. “The fact is, you have to see his (Arshdeep’s) first-class record. Can he bowl long spells? Has he played a lot of Ranji Trophy cricket? I would, in fact, make him go and play a lot of Ranji Trophy cricket. Frist-class cricket. I would keep him in the mix because if someone can swing tt, like he did with the white-ball in South Africa, he could be a handy customer here.”

The former coach underlined the importance of Arshdeep’s first-class record, pointing out his 38 wickets in 12 matches with an average of 29.97 and an economy rate of 3.12. Shastri also commended Arshdeep’s commitment to improving his game, noting his participation in County Championship games with Kent earlier in 2023.
