Ruturaj Gaikwad opts out of the county stint with Yorkshire due to....

Ruturaj Gaikwad was supposed to play in County Championship and One-Day Cup for Yorkshire.

Indian Cricket Team batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has made a significant decision. The right-hander has pulled out of the upcoming County Cricket stint with Yorkshire for personal reasons. 

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad recently signed a deal with Yorkshire, but just days before his scheduled debut, he pulled out. This now puts the team under immense pressure, as they will need to find a potential replacement on short notice. 

Gaikwad was all set to play the remaining County Championship fixtures and was also signed to play the One-Day cup in his maiden stint in County Cricket. He was about to join the team ahead of their next clash against defending champions Surrey.

Although the exact reason behind his decision is unknown, Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath said that it’s disappointing that the India batter won’t be there. He also refrained from revealing the reason behind Gaikwad’s withdrawal. 

“Unfortunately Gaikwad’s not coming now for personal reasons. We’re not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that’s disappointing. I can’t tell you anything about the reasons why, but we hope that everything’s ok. We’ve literally just found out,” he said.

Anthony McGrath also talked about Gaikwad’s replacement, saying that they are racing against time. However, he was quick to quip that they are working behind the scenes. He added: 

“We’re working behind the scenes on what we can do. But it’s only two or three days away, so I’m not sure what we can do at the moment. We’re working to try and get a possible replacement, but time pressure is the issue. I can’t give you anything more than that at the moment.” 

Gaikwad has been out of action for a while. After playing a few games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he was ruled out of the league due to an elbow injury. He was then picked in the India A squad for the four-day matches in England, but he didn’t get a spot in the XI.
