Mumbai Indians (MI) have made a massive trade deal ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. All-rounder Shardul Thakur has joined the five-time champions in a cash deal from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Shardul, who is one of the finest players in Indian cricket, joined LSG last year as a replacement player after he went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction. He was in decent touch with the ball and picked crucial wickets for his team at crucial junctures of the games.
Shardul is now the only player in the history of the league to be part of the three trade deals in the IPL, having moved to the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2017 and to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023. He will be joining the Mumbai Indians for INR 2 crores.
The all-rounder has been traded to the Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of INR 2 crore – IPL statement on Shardul Thakur

The IPL governing council released the official statement, confirming the trade.
“Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder, Shardul Thakur is all set to represent Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the two franchises. The Mumbai-based all-rounder was picked up by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2 crore as an injury replacement for the 18th edition of the league, wherein he featured in 10 games.
“Shardul has been a utility player for the franchises he has represented, putting in clutch performances time and again. The all-rounder has been traded to the Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of INR 2 crore,” the statement read.
Shardul Thakur has been a proven customer in the IPL. From time to time, he has proved his mettle in the league and this was evident in the last season as well, where he picked 13 wickets in 10 matches. With the bat too, Shardul is no mug and this makes him a great addition in Mumbai’s squad.
This will be the first time in his career that he will be playing for his state franchise in the IPL. The all-rounder is also the captain of Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. His addition now makes a strong Indian core for MI.
