Suryakumar Yadav was playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament in Tamil Nadu.

Suryakumar Yadav’s ambition of returning to the Indian test team has taken a big hit as he is doubtful for the first round of the Duleep Trophy after suffering hand injury during the Buchi Babu tournament.

Yadav had been targeting the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament and the upcoming Duleep Trophy as a route to make a case for a comeback to the test side ahead of the long test season that India have in which they play five tests at home and five away.

However, Suryakumar started the Buchi Babu competition in Tamil Nadu with a low score of 30 against TNCA XI and then suffered a hand injury that ruled him out of the rest of the tournament and also put his participation in the Duleep Trophy in doubt.

Suryakumar Yadav suffers hand injury while fielding

During Mumbai’s group-stage game against TNCA XI, Suryakumar sustained a hand injury while fielding in the TNCA XI’s second innings on day three of the match.

Suryakumar was fielding at leg slip when left-handed batsman Pradosh Ranjan Paul flicked a leg-stump delivery from Musheer Khan in his direction. He tried to stop the ball but it hurt him on the bounce.

Suryakumar immediately winced in pain and shook his hand. He clutched his hand and was observed to be in considerable pain when his teammates signaled for the medical staff member to attend to him. He received treatment and then soon left the field.

Suryakumar didn’t come out to bat in Mumbai’s second innings. His side was bowled out for 223 and lost the match by 286 runs.

At the time of writing, there hasn’t been any official statement from the Mumbai Cricket Association regarding Yadav’s injury. His participation in the Duleep Trophy is now under an injury cloud.
