Sri Lanka middle-order batsman Charith Asalanka scored his second ODI century.

Charith Asalanka, Sri Lankan left-handed batter, scored his second ODI century and first-ever World Cup century in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh being played in Delhi on November 6, 2023.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to bowl first. Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start, as Kusal Perera was out for four runs. Captain Kusal Mendis scored 19 runs before being removed by Shakib Al Hasan.

Pathum Nissanka (41) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (41) then helped to rebuild the innings, but Tanzim Hasan dropped Nissanka and Shakib dropped Samarawickrama. Angelo Mathews was then controversially timed out, making him the first batter in history to be dismissed in this manner.

However, Charith Asalanka didn’t panic and continued on to score runs at one end. He got some support from Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored 34 runs. Asalanka added 78 with Dhananjaya for the sixth wicket.

Maheesh Theekshana made 22 runs, with Asalanka guiding him through in their 43-run partnership for the 7th wicket. The left-hander continued amidst some good bowling by Bangladeshi bowlers.

Asalanka, who had scored his 50 in 56 balls, brought up his second ODI century in 101 balls and was finally dismissed for 108 runs by Tanzim Hasan Sakib. In his 105-ball stay, Asalanka hit six fours and five sixes as he propelled Sri Lanka to a defendable total.

The cricket fraternity and fans on social media platform X were very praiseful of Asalanka’s efforts with the bat in a crunch match for Sri Lanka. They took the social media platform X and lauded the cricketer.
