Virat Kohli has climbed up a spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen.

India batter Virat Kohli climbed up in the latest update of the ICC ODI batter rankings, while captain Rohit Sharma has dropped down a couple of spots. This update comes after the opening week of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which began on October 5 in India.

Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock, and Dawid Malan are the big movers inside the top 10 of the ODI Batting Rankings. Ten centuries across the opening eight matches at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 have led to major shakeups in the rankings.

The first centuries came from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra in the opening match between New Zealand and England. Then Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram hit tons for South Africa as they posted the highest team total of 428 in Delhi. Dawid Malan joined the party for England against Bangladesh.

Then Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama hot tons against Pakistan, but Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan bettered their tons with centuries of their own in the Men in Green’s record chase win.

Quinton De Kock moved to the sixth spot after his blazing ton against Sri Lanka, as he is set to make his mark in a last 50-over tournament before retiring from the format. England opener Malan made an even bigger move as 140 rapid runs against Bangladesh pushed him seven places higher into eighth in the batting rankings.

Virat Kohli climbs to sixth spot after his 85 against Australia; Rohit Sharma drops out of top 10

On the other hand, ODI legend Virat Kohli moved two places high after his brilliant match-winning 85-run knock against Australia in India’s World Cup 2023 opener. Malan reached a career-best rating of 711 to be four points behind Kohli.

India captain Rohit Sharma dropped out of the top 10 batters list after getting out for a duck against Australia. He was trapped LBW by Josh Hazlewood as India began their chase of the 200-run target in Chennai.

India keeper-batter KL Rahul (up 15 spots to 19th) and South Africa all-rounder Aiden Markram (up 11 spots to 21st) have also benefited from plundering runs to start the Cricket World Cup.

Babar Azam still holds the no.1 rank in the ICC ODI batting rankings, despite his poor outings in the first two matches for Pakistan. India’s Shubman Gill remains in second place even while sidelined due to illness.
