Virat Kohli's record in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Virat Kohli returns to the Vijay Hazare after nearly 15 years.
Virat Kohli is one of India’s all-time greats. However, before arriving at the international stage, the right-handed batter delivered outstanding performance in the domestic circuit. Kohli made his List A debut for Delhi against Services in February 2006 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
He did not get a chance to bat in that match as Delhi chased down the target successfully without losing many wickets. This marked the beginning of Virat Kohli‘s domestic limited-overs career, before his rapid rise led to international selection in 2008.
Vijay Hazare’s performances played a key role in Kohli’s career

Virat delivered his standout season at the competition in the 2008-09 season. He scored a massive 534 runs in just seven matches at an exceptional average of 89.00, finishing as the leading run-scorer for the tournament. It was during this period that he brought up his then-highest score of 124 against Haryana.
Kohli scored four centuries, and all of them came between 2006 and 2009. In the 2009-10 season, Kohli was appointed as Delhi’s skipper, and he scored 229 runs in five matches at an average of 45.8, with a strike rate of 102.23.
The consistency he showed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy played a key role in his elevation to India’s ODI setup in 2008. Since he became a regular feature in the Indian setup, Kohli no longer competed at the Vijay Hazare.
He has now returned to the tournament in 2025, having retired from the shortest and longest forms of the game. Delhi’s opening game against Andhra Pradesh marks Kohli’s return to the Vijay Hazare after nearly 15 years.
He last played at the event back on February 18, 2010, in Gurgaon, against Services, where he had scored a quick-fire 16 off 8 balls, helping Delhi post a total of 311.
