The week's action was an amalgamation of individual brilliancies and collective team effort.
The sixth Gameweek of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 saw some interesting matches. The game week remained witness to the highest scoring thriller of the season between Des Buckingham's side Mumbai City and Chennayin FC. East Bengal registered their away victory over the a star-studded Bengaluru FC, where former Bengaluru FC striker Cleiton Silva scored the winning goal for the Torchbearers.
17 goals were scored in total across five matches played this previous week. The league table-toppers kept their dominance in the top position with 16 points in the six games. Meanwhile, Mumbai City climbed up to the second position after a resounding victory over the Marina Machans.
Let's take a look at the ISL 2022-23 Gameweek 6 Team Of The Week.
Goalkeeper: Kamaljit Singh (East Bengal)
Kamaljit Singh proved his quality with good acumen and looked confident under the sticks. The shot-stopper looked brilliant throughout the game. Whenever he came out from the goal, he exhibited the right touches. In the match against Bengaluru FC, Kamaljit made two clearances, punched out two balls and caught one ball.
Right-back: Ankit Mukherjee (East Bengal)
The Bengal boy was an inspirational presence at the right side of the East Bengal's defence. Ankit won almost all aerial battles and registered 46 touches to his name. His rock solid defending and concentration in the game helped East Bengal to keep a clean sheet against Simon Grayson's army. Defensively, Mukerjee made two successful tackles, seven clearances, blocked one shot and made three interceptions.
Centre-back: Lalchungnunga (East Bengal)
The centre-back played his part quite brilliantly and formed a formidable partnership with Spaniard Ivan Gonzalez at the heart of defence. He played his role quite confidently and provided the much needed stability to the East Bengal backline. Defensively, he made one successful tackle, four successful clearances and four interceptions.
Centre-back: Ivan Gonzalez (East Bengal)
Ivan Gonzalez showed a resilient display in the match against Bengaluru FC. His rock solid defending at the base of East Bengal's defense didn't give a breather to Sunil Chettri and Roy Krishna. Defensively, the Spaniard made one successful tackle, seven clearances and four successful interceptions. Most importantly, in the second half, he made a goal-saving tackle to deny the Fijian forward.
Left-back: Subhasish Bose (ATK Mohun Bagan)
The left-back's last gasp of goal saved ATK Mohun Bagan from sharing the points with NorthEast United. He scored the winning goal for his side with a diving header into the bottom right corner. Notably, this was his first goal of the ISL 2022-23 season taking his overall tally to three. He was just on fire in the match. Bose made the most touches (91) in the Mariners' line-up.
Right midfielder: Sahal Abdul Samad (Kerala Blasters)
Sahal Abdul Samad displayed a lethal performance in Kochi, against the Gaurs. Sahal created numerous chances and acted as a bridge between the midfield and the attacking third. His shot on target was denied by the FC Goa keeper Dheeraj Singh in the third minute of the game. Apart from glancing three shots on target, he provided a brilliant assist to captain Adrian Luna. Undoubtedly, it was one memorable match for him, as the Blasters defeated Goa for the first time since November, 2016.
Central midfielder: Boris Singh Thangjam (Jamshedpur FC)
Boris displayed a top-notch performance against the Nizams, perhaps for the first time in ISL 2022-23. His energy and sheer willpower to penetrate through the Hyderabad defence highlighted his work rate in that match. Boris covered the most distance in the game and made the most sprints. He created some of the best chances and kept troubling Odei and Akash Mishra.
The lad registered Jamshedpur's first shot on target inside the first five minutes of the game, but the same was denied by Laxmikant Kattimani in goal. Boris won nine ground duels and successfully completed five dribbles.
Central midfielder: Ivan Kaliuzhnyi (Kerala Blasters)
The Ukrainian midfielder proved his class once again in the match against FC Goa. He showed his hard working skills and unleashed a piledriver from outside the box. He just kept threatening in the centre of the pitch. Ivan maintained an 87% passing accuracy during the game.
Left midfielder: Bipin Singh (Mumbai City)
Bipin Singh became the Islanders leading goal-scorer with 16 goals after netting one against Chennaiyin FC. His swashbuckling performance in the wing caused a massive massacre to the Marina Machans' defence. Bipin was on fire till the end of the match as he scored one goal and provided two assists. Soon after the second half began, Bipin pulled the ball back on the edge of the box towards Vinit. Vinit in return smashed it into the net with his first attempt on goal.
Bipin also supplied the ball to Spaniard Alberto Noguera who blasted the ball inside the net with a powerful shot (of course, there was an acute deflection)!
Striker: Cleiton Silva (East Bengal)
Former Bengaluru FC striker threatened to convert many attempts in both halves. He had a great game to remember against his former team. Cleiton took six shots and three of them were on target. Luckily, the 35-year-old did not leave his scoring boots back in Kolkata and scored the only goal of the match which led to the side's second victory of the campaign. Even he could have doubled up the lead through a counter attack, but his solo effort failed to find the back of the net.
Striker: Dimitrios Diamantakos (Kerala Blasters)
The Greece international led Kerala Blasters against FC Goa and scored a goal and assisted one for his team. His reckless and greedy high pressing football caused a severe headache for the Gaurs' defenders. He won a penalty and scored the second goal of the match before just before the lemon break. His overall performance in the match won the KBFC fans' hearts. Also, this was his second goal in ISL 2022-23.
