Rob Edwards’ Hatters might have a long season ahead of them

Luton Town enters the 2023-24 Premier League season as the underdogs. But many people fear that might be a strong candidate for relegation. Their remarkable journey to reach this topmost tier English league, and one of the best in the world, is truly inspiring.

Hence, Rob Edwards’ team doesn’t feel burdened by high expectations. Instead, they feel free and have little to lose when they play.

As a former National League team known for their orange strip, Luton Town fans are thrilled that their beloved club will be competing with England’s top clubs and take on the world’s best teams. They are expected to strengthen their squad with new players, which will make them even more competitive. So how the playoff winners might line up on the first day of the next season, here are the predictions:

James Shea-  Goalkeeper

Luton Town has three goalkeepers, with James Shea as their main choice since 2017. He has a history with Arsenal’s academy and played on loan for Southampton and Dagenham & Redbridge. He also had experience in Non-League football with Needham Market and Harrow Borough. With last season’s starter Ethan Horvath gone, Luton might sign a new number-one goalie. As of now, James Shea seems to be a solid option for the upcoming season.

Amari’i Bell- Left Centre Back

The 29-year-old Jamaican defender, Amari’i Bell, joined Luton Town from Blackburn Rovers two years ago. He has played 97 matches for the club and played a vital role in their promotion to the Premier League.

Bell’s skill in passing long balls over the opponent’s midfield and defence fits perfectly with Coach Edwards’ ‘3-man defence’ tactics. He recently signed a new contract with Luton Town, and the manager praised him for being a crucial part of the team’s defence.

Tom Lockyer- Centre Back

Tom Lockyer was voted Luton’s Player of the Season for his outstanding performance as a key player. After a concerning collapse during international duties, he’s now allowed to continue his career. He’s expected to play a crucial role in Luton’s defence in the upcoming Premier League season, where his strength, experience, and composure shine in handling counter-attacks.

Mads Andersen- Right Centre Back

Luton boss Rob Edwards is thrilled to sign Mads Andersen, a talented defender from Barnsley, to bolster their back line in their debut Premier League season. Edwards praised Andersen’s skills, experience, and positive attitude, considering him a valuable addition to their three-defender strategy. Alongside Bell and Lockyer, Andersen’s recruitment could make the 3-at-the-back tactic successful for the team.

Alfie Doughty- Left Wing Back

Luton’s Alfie Doughty, a versatile and talented player, could surprise the Premier League next season. With seven assists and strong defensive skills, he impressed on the left flank at Kenilworth Road. At just 23, he has even more to offer, being a major attacking threat during open play and excellent at set-piece taking. His stats speak for themselves, ranking among the top performers in the league for his position.

Tahith Chong- Left Centre Mid

Tahith Chong is Luton’s third summer signing since their Premier League promotion. The 23-year-old midfielder from the Netherlands stood out at Birmingham City, impressing with his skills in a notable 5-0 win against Luton in August 2021. Coach Rob Edwards praised Chong’s technique, hard work, and defensive skills. With his youth and a supportive team, Chong is expected to continue developing and displaying his talent on the field.
