Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to overhaul United board after his takeover

According to reports, Paolo Maldini is expected to make a surprise move to Manchester United as a result of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s huge shake-up of the club.

The Glazer family is about to give the second-richest man in Britain a minority ownership interest in the Red Devils. After years of unrest, Ratcliffe is expected to drastically alter the club’s organisational structure.

Ratcliffe is eager to name a sporting director to help manager Erik ten Hag improve the team’s performance. Famous defender Maldini is reportedly among his shortlist of contenders for the position.

That’s stated to The Telegraph, who further report that Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta, Atalanta’s Lee Congerton, and Maldini’s former accomplice at AC Milan, Ricky Massara, are also being considered for the position.

Following a disagreement with owner Gerry Cardinale in June, the Rosseneiri gave both Maldini and Massara their walking requests, allowing them to remain free agents.

Considered by many to be one of the best defenders of all time, Maldini did succeed in that capacity for his previous team, helping to bring in Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori. An incumbent sports director of the Premier League is also vying for the position.

Dougie Freedman of Crystal Palace is reportedly one of the most outstanding contenders for the position given his recent achievements at Selhurst Park.

And since Ratcliffe will be consulting Sir Alex Ferguson for assistance during the process, he stands a good chance of landing the job.

The Eagles have benefited greatly from Freedman’s work at Selhurst Park, as evidenced by his acquisitions of Marc Guehi, Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Conor Gallagher on loan.

Ferguson, the former coach of the Red Devils, is extremely acquainted with Freedman, having let him stay time in his place of work while he was at Palace’s manager.
