Harmanjot Khabra was seen walking with crutches when he was brought back on to the bench from the dressing room.
Indian Super League (ISL) side East Bengal FC registered their biggest ever win in the history of the league against their neighbours NorthEast United. The Red & Golds scored five past the Highlanders at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
It was a memorable outing for the Kolkata side as they brought an end to their winless run in style. However, during the game, one of East Bengal’s captains for this season, Harmanjot Khabra sustained a knee injury, the club confirmed on Thursday.
What happened?
Khabra sustained an injury early in the first half. He was taken off in the 26th minute and was replaced by Mohammad Rakip. All of this happened after East Bengal scored their second goal and took a 2-0 lead in the clash.
After the injury, Harmanjot Khabra was seen walking with crutches. It does seem like a serious and long-term injury which puts his further participation in the ISL into jeopardy.
Taking to their social media handles, East Bengal confirmed Khabra’s injury and wrote, “Harmanjot Singh Khabra suffered a knee injury in Monday’s ISL home match against NorthEast United FC.”
They also added that he will be under supervision in order to decide the next course of action. “He will be monitored in the coming days to decide the upcoming course of action,” the club wrote.
Khabra’s performance for East Bengal FC
Harmanjot Khabra has been an integral part of East Bengal this season. He has been a leader both on and off the pitch and has helped the team in many ways. He was one of the players who started all seven league games for the Red & Gold Brigade.
Khabra was excellent with his passing, ball recoveries, and aerial and ground duels. His injury comes in as a very bad news for Carles Cuadrat and his side.
