The Nizams continue their disappointing run in the ISL after losing to an in-form Odisha FC side.
Hyderabad FC’s struggles in the ongoing season of the Indian Super League continued after the defeat to Odisha FC by a 3-0 scoreline at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday. Roy Krishna secured a brace and Mourtada Fall scored the other for the hosts who were better than the visitors in every department on the pitch.
Thangboi Singto, head coach of Hyderabad FC, spoke about his team’s effort, which was not good enough to produce a good result. “I think we are sorry as a team, but the thing is that it’s not that we haven’t been trying,” the tactician said during the press conference, sympathising with the fans who are yet to see their team secure a win this term.
Here are the excerpts from the interaction with the media:
Commendable effort
Thangboi Singto was not happy with the result but took the opportunity to praise the players for putting in the effort even if it was not enough to secure any points in the end. “We knew that it was going to be tough with the way Odisha FC have been performing but we had a fair number of chances in the first half and even in the second half. We knew that they were very dangerous in the set-pieces. We tried our best, but it was not enough. But I’m happy with the way the guys performed; not with the result, but the way they fought as a team is commendable,” he said.
Striker troubles
Despite creating scoring chances, Hyderabad FC are lacking a target\-man who would finish the chances by putting the ball in the back of the net. Speaking about the unavailability of strikers due to fitness issues, Singto said, “We have to play sometimes without a proper No.9 or No.10 or double 9. We do create chances in every match. But I think we have not been able to put the ball on the target and score.”
Sorry for the fans
Thangboi Singto feels sorry for the fans who must have had high hopes for Hyderabad FC who won the ISL Trophy in 2021-22 and reached the playoffs last season. In this context, he said, “Sometimes with football, your best is not enough because maybe the other team is better on the given day. But for the players, for the staff, for the coaches, I think we need to keep walking; we need to stick together and keep fighting.”
