The Copa América is the premier senior men’s football competition in South America, and it crowns the continental champion. The competition was called the South American Championship until 1967. With its inaugural event taking place in 1916, it is the most ancient continental championship globally.
After Argentina and Uruguay (15 apiece), Brazil have won the tournament nine times, making them the third-most dominant team in the competition’s history. Between 1926 and 1935, Brazil withdrew from Copa America for nearly ten years.
