Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken over 25% stakes at Manchester United

Manchester United takeover is finally complete as Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquires a 25% stake in the English club. He will also take control over the functioning of the club. The club and the fans can expect a few changes at the club in the coming days.

New Sporting Director

Paul Mitchell is in line to become the new Sporting Director at Manchester United. The former Monaco Sporting Director is the ‘frontrunner’ for the job. However, it is worth noting that John Murtough is United’s football director and there is nothing to suggest he will be leaving his post.

Mitchell was the former head of recruitment at Spurs and joined the Red Bull group in 2018. He was named Monaco’s sporting director in June 2020, eventually becoming a board member, and twice helped the club finish third before leaving the Ligue 1 side earlier this year.

New Chief Executive

Jean-Claude Blanc is likely to be appointed as the new CEO of the club.  In late October, new reports, including in The Athletic, suggested his first move could be to remove current CEO Richard Arnold and bring in Jean-Claude Blanc. It has now been confirmed that Blanc will be joining the club; with Arnold having already stepped down, the Frenchman is expected to replace United’s interim CEO, Patrick Stewart.

Club Audit

Sir Dave Brailsford will carry out the club audit. The club has been dealing with financial issues over the seasons and the new ownership will look to assess the financial condition.

Erik ten Hag to remain as Manchester United manager

Despite a poor start to the season, Erik ten Hag is likely to remain as the manager of the club. He has had a restricted transfer budget and couldn’t bring in players of his liking. The Dutchman has the back-up of the new ownership and that is a positive sign.
