Dani Carvajal sidelined for rest of 2023 due to muscle injury

Dani Carvajal has been Real’s regular starter since 2016

Dani Carvajal is the most recent player to be ruled out for an extended period, adding to Real Madrid’s mounting injury crisis. The right-back had to abandon the game against Granada at halftime due to a calf discomfort.

On Monday morning, he conducted examinations to evaluate the issue, and the results revealed he had injured his soleus.

The 31-year-old will therefore likely miss the final Champions League group stage match at Union Berlin, the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, and La Liga matches against Betis (away), Villarreal (home), Alavés (away), and Real Mallorca (home) due to his expected month-long absence from the action.

It is hoped that Carvajal will be ready to play in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final on January 10 against Atlético Madrid.

Due to muscle ailments, Carvajal was forced to miss two games this season: the opening Champions League matchup against Union Berlin and the away encounter against Ateti in La Liga. Lucas Vázquez, a former winger who is now a full defender, is expected to miss him.

Apart from Carvajal, seven additional first-team players are presently in the Real Madrid treatment room: Eduardo Camavinga (damaged knee ligament), Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militão (both ACL tears), Aurélien Tchouaméni (fractured metatarsal), Luka Modric (strain in his thigh), Arda Güler, and Vinícius Júnior (tears in his thigh muscles).
