The Norwegian striker may be out of action for a long period.

Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland is currently nursing a foot injury that may keep him on the sidelines for several weeks. Reports coming outside of England even suggest that the club is considering signing a replacement striker in the January transfer window due to the uncertain nature of the Norwegian striker’s injury.

In a scenario Erling Haaland spends multiple weeks on the sidelines, then the Fantasy Premier League managers will be looking at replacements for him. As it stands, the MCFC forward leads the FPL points tally for a striker with 112 points, the third highest overall ahead of the game week 17 in the league.

Erling Haaland did not play against Luton Town in GW 16 and is unlikely to feature in GW 17 against Crystal Palace. Furthermore, Manchester City does not have a fixture in GW 18 due to FIFA Club World Cup involvement.

Therefore, FPL managers will be looking at short-term solutions and here are five players that may fit in:

Julian Alvarez (£6.9m)

Julian Alvarez is the third-highest point-getting forward in the FPL behind Haaland and Ollie Watkins this term

Julian Alvarez seems to be the obvious replacement as he will likely take Erling Haaland’s place in Manchester City’s forward line. He has four goals and eight assists in the Premier League. With an overall of 80 points, Alvarez is the third-highest point-getting forward in the FPL behind Haaland and Ollie Watkins. He can be a short-term option for FPL managers who want to stick with an MCFC player due to their tendency to win games and score plenty of goals.

Dominic Solanke (£6.6m)

Dominic Solanke is the most transferred (in) forward ahead of Friday’s deadline. His form has been crucial for Bournemouth’s recent run of positive results. He opened the scoring against Manchester United in a brilliant 0-3 win at Old Trafford. The striker has 73 points and favourable fixtures for the club may result in him collecting more attacking returns going forward.

Matheus Cunha (£5.7m)

Matheus Cunha has been one of Wolverhampton’s most consistent players in the 2023-24 season of the Premier League. He is also the fourth-highest forward in terms of FPL points with 65 points. He has delivered a goal contribution in each of Wolves’ last five fixtures in the league. Upcoming matches with West Ham, Chelsea and Brentford could see Cunha deliver more goals and assists.

Raul Jimenez (£5.2m)

Raul Jimenez has been slowly finding his rhythm of old in front of goal for Fulham. The Mexican international has scored thrice in the last two matches for the London-based outfit, thus collecting 13 and nine points respectively against Nottingham Forest and West Ham United. He is in a rich vein of form and the FPL managers shall look to make the best of it by signing him in their FPL squads as a short-term solution.

Ollie Watkins (£8.4m)

Ollie Watkins
Ollie Watkins has 99 points in the FPL with eight goals and nine assists this FPL season

If an FPL manager does not have Ollie Watkins, then he/she must sign him on priority. The striker has 99 points in the FPL with eight goals and nine assists, the second-highest for a forward behind Haaland. He enjoys a 39.8% ownership in FPL 2023-24 which may rise further considering doubts over Haaland’s availability for upcoming matches. Considering Aston Villa’s impeccable performances in the Premier League, bringing in Watkins is a safe option for managers who do not have him.
