Lionel Messi won the Best FIFA Men’s Player 2022

The final three nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2023 are out. Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi will compete for this year’s title.

The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 will be held on 15 January 2024 in London.

Twelve players were initially shortlisted on 14 September 2023. The likes of Julian Alvarez, Marcelo Brozovic, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Victor Osimhen, Declan Rice and Bernardo Silva were the other nominees.

The selection criteria for the men’s players and coaches will be respective achievements during the period from 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023.

Messi, Haaland and Mbappe were the final three nominees in the race for the Ballon d’Or. Let’s take a look at who will be the favourite to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2023.

3. Kylian Mbappe (PSG and France)

The World Cup finalist with France, Mbappe won the Ligue 1 with PSG. Mbappe has scored 49 goals in 2023 till now and is one of the top-rated players in football. He is the third favourite to win this award.

2. Lionel Messi (PSG, Inter Miami and Argentina)

Lionel Messi won his eighth Ballon d’Or ahead of these two players. He won the World Cup, and Ligue 1 and led Inter Miami to their first-ever silverware. The Argentine wasn’t playing his best football consistently this year. This is one of the primary reasons why he might miss the top spot.

1. Erling Haaland (Manchester City and Norway)

Erling Haaland will be the favourite to win this award. He has scored 50 goals this year and won the treble with Manchester City.
