The Rossoneri face a tough task to qualify in this season’s Champions League Round of 16.

There have been highs and lows for AC Milan throughout the Champions League group stage. The Rossoneri are in a difficult situation after their last four games have resulted in just one victory, two draws, and one loss. For the Italian giants, though, it’s far from over and they intend to battle for a spot in the knockout stages. Of course, the draws with Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle, particularly the first meeting with the Magpies, were frustrating. These draws may wind up costing Milan because they kept them from scoring vital points that would have put them in a more fortunate position.

Although Milan’s away loss to Paris Saint-Germain was somewhat predicted, they responded magnificently in the second leg, winning 2-1 at San Siro. Shortly after Skriniar’s goal in the first few minutes of the match, goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud saved the day for the team. In these final match-day rounds, they proved they were prepared to play against top teams. Milan will have some work ahead of them in the next two matchdays, as can be seen by looking at the Group F standings.

Although two victories would ensure them advancement, considering the fierce competition they face, this is definitely a challenging objective to accomplish. The passionate supporters of AC Milan across the world are eagerly anticipating a thrilling conclusion to this captivating tale. Rossoneri fans are hoping that their team can win the games needed to go to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.

Qualification scenario

Although Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan are in third place in Group F, they still stand a good chance of qualifying into the Knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. AC Milan have 5 points from their four games and they recently won their first game. They beat PSG on match day 4 by 2-1 at San Siro, Milan. Milan has 2 draws, 1 win and 1 loss in their current standings. They will need to win both of their matches to stand a clear chance of making it to the Round of 16.

AC Milan have the next two games with Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle respectively. The game against Dortmund is at their home in Milan, while the Newcastle fixture is away in England. The Rossoneri need to win both their games and hope that PSG loses one of the two as one game against table toppers Dortmund is with Milan itself. In this way, Milan will top the group.

A loss will prove that Milan will overcomplicate their chances of qualifying for the Knockout stages. Meanwhile, if they draw both matches, they will have 7 points in total, hoping that PSG and Newcastle won’t win any of their remaining games. In this manner, Pioli’s side can ensure that they move onto the next stage of the UEFA Champions League.

History of AC Milan in UCL

AC Milan have been really successful when it comes to the UEFA Champions League or say European football. The European Cup or UEFA Champions League is the competition in which the club has had the greatest success. They have won it seven times, with their first victory coming in 1963, making them the first Italian team to win the trophy. The remaining six wins were in 1969, 1990, 1994, 2003, and 2007. Moreover, after the 2007 Champions League victory, Milan featured in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup as UEFA’s representative. They won the tournament, making history as the first Italian and European team to win the trophy.

Milan did not compete in any European competitions in 2014–15 and the following two seasons. Later, the team gradually returned, first in the Serie A and later in the Champions League, led by manager Stefano Pioli. In actuality, Milan took part in the Champions League for the first time in seven seasons and won the Scudetto for the first time in eleven years in 2021–2022.

The Rossoneri found its form in the 2022-23 season of UCL, where they qualified till the semi-finals of the competition. The Rossoneri faced Inter Milan in the semi-finals and this was the third time in European play that the two teams have faced off against each other. They were eliminated by their rivals but showed great character throughout the tournament.
