Kerala Blasters have now lost five successive games across all competitions including ISL.
It was an action-packed week in the Indian Super League. This week brought us goals, drama and a lot in between. 20 goals were scored by 10 teams in eight games. Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC wrapped up two wins in two matches while Kerala Blasters have now lost three ISL games in a row.
NorthEast United, FC Goa, Bengaluru FC, and Hyderabad FC finished the week with zero points. East Bengal finally returned to winning ways while Hyderabad FC’s struggles continued. In the ultimate game of the week, Vikram Partap Singh scored twice past Bengaluru custodian Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and dedicated his goals to his father, who passed away a few weeks back.
On that note, let us take a look at the talking points from the week gone by.
3. Jamshedpur FC score four past Punjab FC
Both sides were in a great run of form ahead of this ISL fixture. Punjab FC had won two back-to-back games while Jamshedpur FC maintained an unbeaten run in 2024. However, things changed completely when these two sides came up against each other.
Khalid Jamil’s team turned on its beast mode and destroyed Punjab FC’s newly found confidence. They opened the scoring in the first half and then put three more past the Shers’ goalkeeper and registered their biggest win against Punjab.
2. FC Goa face first defeat of the season
There was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding FC Goa’s unbeaten run this season until they met Mohun Bagan for the second time. The Gaurs’ undefeated run was brought to an end by the defending champions at the Fatorda Stadium.
It was a tight game with some end-to-end action. Both sides had their fair share of chances but Vishal Kaith’s heroics coupled with a wonderful strike by Dimitri Petratos ensured Mohun Bagan settle scores and get a win against FC Goa.
1. Kerala Blasters face first defeat in Kochi since February 2023
As mentioned earlier, it was an eventful week. But, the highlight of the week was the first match between an in-form Punjab FC and a struggling Kerala Blasters side. Punjab FC pulled off the unthinkable and damaged the Blasters’ vainglory of remaining undefeated at home since February 2023.
Kerala Blasters managed to go unbeaten in seven home games across a period of one year, but succumbed against Punjab. The Blasters took the lead in the 39th minute before Wilmar Jordan Gil and Luka Majcen scripted a comeback for their side. Things have gone from bad to worse as Ivan Vukomanovic’s side have now lost five games on the trot across all competitions.
