Bengaluru looking for a fresh start against Al Wihdat
The Bengaluru outfit will be playing their first home game...
Bengaluru FC look set to shed the disappointment of their twin defeats in the I-League when they take on Jordanian club Al Wihdat in an AFC Champions League qualifier on Tuesday. The Blues had a strong start to the domestic season with 3 wins on a trot and with 3 clean sheets to boot. However, defeats to East Bengal and Churchill Brothers away from home have put Albert Roca's men in a tricky situation before this important game.
Their rivals Al Wihdat, on the other hand, are flying high on the back of 5 straight wins in the Jordanian Premier League and Jordan Cup scoring 13 goals and conceding none. Adnan Hamad's side have been at this stage in the 2016 edition as well when they crashed out at the Play off round of the qualifying stage of the competition.
Team News
Bengaluru FC will travel to Jordan with a full strength squad. John Johnson will be eligible for this game and Roca will have his full quota of players available for selection.
Adnan Hamad will not look to change a fully-oiled machine that has served his team so well in the last 5 games and will, in all likeliness, retain the same lineup that has got him 5 straight victories in all competitions.
Head to Head
This will be the first game between the two teams.
Man to Watch
John Johnson-Bengaluru FC: The 28-year old British defender will need to use every ounce of his vast international experience to hold off a potent Al Wihdat attack if the Garden City club are to obtain a favourable result from this tie. Johnson's ability to organize his defence and his heading prowess from set pieces will be very important for Roca's team.
Hassen Abdel Fattah-Al Wihdat: The 34 year old vice-captain of the club will be a key cog in Al-Wihdat's midfield. The attacking midfielder has scored 4 times in 8 games for the club which included a brace in their last game against Al Hussein. Roca will have an eye on restricting Fattah's influence in the game if the southerners are to take away a positive result from Jordan.
