ISL 2024-25: Borja Herrera & Tiri headline Matchweek 13 Team of the Week

The Gameweek 13 of the Indian Super League (ISL) witnessed some eye-catching games. East Bengal came back from 0-2 down to win the game 4-2 against Punjab FC in the opener. FC Goa stunned Mohun Bagan with a 2-1 win at the Fatorda followed by Mumbai City FC’s hardought win against Chennaiyin FC. East Bengal secured one more win against Jamshedpur FC.

Kerala Blasters also returned to winning ways with a statement 3-0 win over Mohammedan SC before NorthEast United also brought an end to their winless run against Hyderabad at the very same venue where they had won five years ago. The Highlanders also pulled off a comeback 2-5 victory despite going 2-0 within the first few minutes.

On that note, let us take a look at Khel Now’s team of the week for game week 13.

Formation: 4-4-2

GK – Prabhsukhan Gill (East Bengal FC)

Prabhksukhan Gill was the most standout goalkeeper this week. He was in action twice and managed to take his side over the line in both the games. In fact, he also kept a clean sheet while making six saves, including five from inside the box, and two high claims as well. Gill also came off his line on a couple of occasions to neutralise the danger.

RB – Redeem Tlang (NorthEast United FC)

Redeem Tlang became the point of difference for NorthEast United in their emphatic 2-5 victory over Hyderabad FC. Redeem came on at half-time and took over as the right back. The winger-turned-full-back kept Edmilson Indjai Correia in check and did not allow him any further opportunities. Tlang also hit the woodwork once and maintained a passing accuracy of 87%.

CB – Tiri (Mumbai City FC)

Tiri put in a really good shift at the back alongside his partner Mehtab Singh

Tiri had a busy outing as Mumbai City FC cleaned up Chennaiyin FC at home. The Spanish defender made five interceptions, four tackles and clearances each alongside three blocks. He won 4/4 of his aerial duels and 5/4 of his ground duels. The two-time ISL champion stood tall like a wall and kept Chennaiyin FC’s attacking unit at bay.

CB – Mehtab Singh (Mumbai City FC)

Mehtab Singh also put in a really good shift at the back for Mumbai City FC alongside his partner Tiri. Singh was a mainstay at the back and played a crucial role in keeping things tight. He made four clearances, one interception and tackle each while winning all of his ground duels and the majority of his aerial duels. Additionally, he maintained a passing accuracy of 94% and also had a shot on target.

LB – Chungnunga Lal (East Bengal FC)

The left-back was one of the most active players this week. He made seven clearances, four tackles, two interceptions and blocks each across two games. He worked his socks off and absorbed all the danger that came his way.

The 23-year-old won five ground duels and also executed a key pass each in both games. He is also a keen dribbler and made bombing forward runs frequently.

RM – Vishnu PV (East Bengal FC)

Vishnu has been one of the most inspiring players this season. He has established himself as one of the best Indian players for East Bengal and has lived up to all the expectations and hype. He dropped in two good performances this week and helped his side secure a win in both games. Vishnu notched up one goal and an assist each while registering four tackles and two tackles and clearances.

CM – Adrian Luna (Kerala Blasters)

Adrian Luna guided Kerala Blasters to a much-needed win at home with his heroics in the middle of the park. The Uruguayan midfielder was at the top of his game with his creativity and leadership abilities. Luna executed six key passes and racked up an assist in the process. In fact, he also created a big chance and maintained a passing accuracy of nearly 80%. 

CM – Borja Herrera (FC Goa)

Borja Herrera took charge of the creative duties as FC Goa pulled off a stunning result against league leaders Mohun Bagan. The Spaniard looked in great shape and created both goals for his side. Herrera set up Brison Fernandes twice and helped the Gaurs add three more points to their tally. He executed three key passes with an accuracy of 76% and also created one big chance. 

LM – Brison Fernandes (FC Goa)

Brison Fernades dropped his best-ever ISL performance for FC Goa against Mohun Bagan. The forward took the Gaurs over the line on his day of no error. He scored both the goals against the Mariners, including a second half winner to wrap up a 2-1 victory for FC Goa. Fernandes won the majotyr of ground and aerial duels and also made two tackles and one clearance in the process.

ST – Guillermo Fernandes (NorthEast United FC)

Gullermo Fernandes took centre stage as NorthEast United brought an end to their nine-match winless run against Hyderabad. Guillermo pounced on every opportunity that he got and led the Highlanders to a solid victory. The Spanish forward helped his side come back from 2-0 down to 5-2 up with a brace. He won the majority of his ground duels and completed 100% of his dribbles.

ST – David Lalhlansanga (East Bengal FC)

David Lalhlansanga gave a good account of himself in the colours of East Bengal against Punjab FC. He led the line for the Red and Gold Brigade and did extremely well. The young forward found the back of the net once as East Bengal recorded a comeback win. He won a lot of his duels alongside three fouls. Moreover, he completed 75% of his passes and made a tackle as well.
