Bhutan will host the tournament starting from August 19, 2025.

The SAFF U17 Women’s Championship is set to commence on August 19, 2025. Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, will be the venue for the tournament. Four South Asian teams, including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the hosts Bhutan, will take part in the competition.

The tournament comes at a crucial time as the teams look to prepare for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers starting in October later this year.

The format of the tournament has been changed. In this edition, the competition will be played in a double round-robin league. This format will give extra competitive fixtures to teams like India, who also have their eyes sight on the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The Swedish manager scripted history recently when he led the Indian U20 Women’s team to the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup. This is the first-ever qualification to that tournament for India in almost 20 years. Joakim Alexandersson, confident after pulling off a humongous task, is in charge of the Indian U17 Women’s team as well.

The fans would expect something similar from the Swedish tactician in the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers. But the immediate objective will be to clinch the SAFF U17 Women’s Asian Championship. Last year, India lost in the final to Bangladesh.

India will kick off the campaign on August 20 against Nepal. A bigger challenge awaits them after their opener. On August 22, India will lock horns with the defending champions, Bangladesh. The Indian team will have to point to prove in this fixture as they will look to avenge last year’s defeat in the final.

After Bangladesh, India will face the hosts, Bhutan, in consecutive fixtures on August 24 and 27. The round robin league will conclude with matches against Nepal and Bangladesh, on August 29 and 31, respectively.
