Indian football team reach Kolkata; Kuwait to start training in Thailand

Kuwait are expected to play a friendly before taking on the Indian football team on 6 June.

The Indian football team is gearing up to face Kuwait in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (second round) fixture which takes place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 6 June 2024. Igor Stimac is working tirelessly with the 27-member squad he finalised for the matches against Kuwait and Qatar that would decide the fate of the Blue Tigers.

The Indian football team have landed this afternoon in Kolkata and will start their preparations in order to adapt to the humid and hot climate in the city.

According to reports, Kuwait are also busying itself with the preparations for a crucial meeting with India as both sides are direct competitors for the second spot in Group A that ensures qualification into the third and final round of AFC region’s World Cup Qualifiers and a berth in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Preparations underway for Kuwait

Kuwait are to reach Thailand on 29 May 2024 and kickstart their preparations ahead of their clash with India. The Al-Azraq are going to set up a training camp in the country and are expected to play a friendly fixture as part of its preparations against a local team. Judging by the effort and dedication both teams have put in, the contest at the Salt Lake Stadium is building up to be electrifying. 

Furthermore, if reports are to be believed, then the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are planning something special for Sunil Chhetri. The legendary Indian footballer and skipper of the Blue Tigers is set to retire from international football after the World Cup qualifier against Kuwait. Therefore, to mark the special occasion, the governing body for football in India are reported to be cooking up something special for the record-breaking Indian goal-scorer on 6 June, on the day of the match against Kuwait.
