Indian Player Ratings: Reagan Singh & Khawlring shine as NorthEast share spoils with Delhi Dynamos

The Highlanders came from behind to secure a point against The Lions.

NorthEast United and Delhi Dynamos played out a competitive 1-1 draw in an Indian Super League encounter played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Thursday evening. The visitors being unbeaten in their last three games looked comfortable in the opening minutes and were keen to unsettle the NorthEast side in their own backyard. However, destiny had other plans as both sides scored a goal each in the second half and the game ended as a draw.

Khel Now rates the Indian players’ performance on the pitch from the match on Thursday night.

NorthEast United

TP Rehenesh- 6.5

The Highlanders custodian had his fair share of luck for and against him. He made at least three great saves to deny Delhi from scoring in the first half. Rehenesh also made a few crucial defensive clearances off set-pieces.

His failure to collect the ball safely on one occasion caused the ball to rebound and let Tebar score for Delhi. Backup custodian Pawan Kumar replaced him in the closing minutes due to a thigh injury.

Reagan Singh- 7.5

Once again, the Highlanders' right-back displayed great character up and down the pitch. Deployed as a wide wing-back more often, he was confident in his offensive roles and had a great understanding with Redeem Tlang and Puitea up the pitch. He also delivered a few crosses inside the Delhi box that needed attention to be dealt with.

Robert Lalthlamuana- 7.0

The left-back from Mizoram put in a full shift of hard work and helped his side to stay afloat in the playoffs race. Had good communication with Panagiotis Triadis and Federico Gallego on the left-hand side, when NorthEast looked to press up the pitch. He was alert and agile while man-marking and in ball recovery.

Redeem Tlang- 5.5

Started the game on the right side of midfield and tried to break into the opposition box. Tried setting up Bartholomew Ogbeche and Gallego with some clever passes early on in the first half, but that didn’t bear fruit. Head coach Eelco Schattorie tweaked his formation a little, which saw Redeem give way for centre-back Gurwinder Singh right after the half hour mark.

Rowllin Borges- 7.0

The India midfielder had a good outing in terms of the result for his team, but would be disappointed after the crossbar denied him a goal in the closing minutes. Besides that, he had a few more shots at goal which were either wayward or cleared to safety.

Lalthathanga Khawlhring- 7.5

This Mizo teenage sensation has been a find for Indian football and continues to improve game-after-game. Puitea looked confident with his movement and exchanged passes quite successfully with the likes of Triadis and Gallego and set them up in brilliant positions to get a goal.

Substitutions

Gurwinder Singh – 6.5

Especially after coming on as a tactical substitute, the tall and sturdy centre-back from Punjab had a great outing. He racked up an 88% passing accuracy and made seven important clearances. Combined well with Mato Grgic to keep Delhi at bay during most of the minutes, but couldn’t stop Tebar from snatching a goal.

Pawan Kumar – NA

Pawan Kumar was required to replace TP Rehenesh in the closing minutes of the game, as the #1 was struggling with a thigh injury in the final quarter.

Delhi Dynamos

Narayan Das- 7.0

The Delhi full-back was in the midst of affairs very frequently. He made seven clearances and three blocks in the entire night’s shift and proved to be a crucial pillar of the defence. His link-up with Ogbeche earned NorthEast a lifeline in the form of a penalty – a decision which was somewhat debatable.

Rana Gharami- 6.5

Formed a compact backline with fellow centre-half Martin Crespi, as he showed defensive alertness to clear balls to safety. He also made his presence felt physically to make NEUFC work hard for an opening, as they looked to play spoilsport in their bid for a playoffs spot.

Vinit Rai- 6.0

Assam-boy Vinit Rai had a mixed bag playing on his home turf. He was sharp in his defensive midfield role and linked-up well with his teammates upfront. However, he wasn’t utilized that much and would have loved to be more involved in helping his team drive forward. He shot wide from around the far post, off a nicely floated ball in from Chhangte in the first half.

Lallianzuala Chhangte- 6.5

His electric pace was visible for sure, but Lallianzuala Chhangte missed an open one-on-one scoring opportunity after a careless forward pass from Rehenesh. His attacking brilliance was neutralized by Reagan Singh on most occasions. Chhangte tried to deliver incisive passes to his forwards, but they were dealt with safely by the opposition.

Nandhakumar Sekhar- 6.0

The 23-year-old made limited contributions to the game, as Delhi opted to run down the left channel riding on Chhangte and the wing-back at times. The right winger from Tamil Nadu had an average outing by his standards and would like to improve in the games to come.

Daniel Lalhlimupuia- 5.5

Apart form a few minutes of activity in the opening minutes of the game, Daniel was a lone figure in the Delhi attack, as the home side looked to press the opposition inside their own half. He was energetic, swift and alert during his time on the pitch.

Substitutions

Seiminmang Manchong- 5.0

Came on at the hour mark for Daniel Lalhlimpuia. Had a decent outing. The talented forward was deployed to run at the Highlanders' defence after a tiring effort throughout the match.

Romeo Fernandes- 5.5

Replaced Chhangte at the hour mark, as Delhi wanted to put on fresh legs on the wing to sharpen their attack. Looked a bit rash with his physical tackles.
