The Nizams will step into the new campaign as the reigning champions after a historic last season.
Hyderabad FC’s transformation from the Indian Super League (ISL) strugglers to the underdogs and eventually into champions is one of the most iconic stories in Indian football. The outfit won the ISL Trophy last season by defeating Kerala Blasters FC in the final fixture on penalties.
Their performance across the 2021-22 season was consistent and the club gave good competition to Jamshedpur FC for the ISL Shield. Finishing second in the league table was a huge achievement and emerging as champions was a brilliant accomplishment. However, the next season holds different challenges for the outfit.
Since winning their first-ever domestic silverware, expectations from Hyderabad FC are high. They are no longer the underdogs and the opposing teams will be cautious of their threat. Manolo Marquez’s men will hope to replicate their performances from the previous campaign. Their first clash of the season with Mumbai City FC will be difficult as the 2020-21 winners will be looking to reclaim their throne.
