The winger will have to represent Egypt in the AFCON and the Olympics.

Liverpool FC are on the verge of losing Mohamed Salah for four months next season. The Egyptian international is set to feature in the Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Cameroon which has been shifted from the summer to next January and February. The Egyptian FA and their hierarchy want the 27-year old forward to lead the Pharaohs to the Olympics in Tokyo as well.

Egypt Under-23s coach Shawky Gharib said, “I expected the Olympics postponement. And this won’t interrupt our plans. We have a Plan B. The lives of the people are more important than sports and the decision is good for the world."

“Salah is one of the best players in the world and any coach would like to invite him to his team, so our door is still open.”

Just like Salah, the Reds could lose players like Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip to the Africa Cup of Nations early next year. If Mohamed Salah is picked for both the tournaments by the Pharaohs, it will mean that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp will have to manage half of the next season without his talisman.

The Olympics in Tokyo were supposed to be held this year between July 24 and August 9 but they are now rescheduled to take place in 2021 and the dates are yet to be confirmed.

However, Jurgen Klopp's primary concern, for now, is this season which is on a hiatus for the COVID-19 outbreak. The pandemic has resulted in cancellation and postponement of several sporting events throughout the globe.

The Premier League is currently suspended until at least April 30 but it may get rescheduled again, pushing the date furthermore. There are also chances of this season getting cancelled, which will deny Liverpool their first league title in 30 years.
