Parish Youth Vagator wins the 11th edition of Reira Group Football Trophy 2017
The final match was played between Parish Youth Vagator and Calangute Association. Parish Youth Vagator won (5-4) on penalties.
Parish Youth Vagator were announced the winner for the Reira Group football Tournament 2017 after a tough match at the Sporting ground, Saligao, that ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The boys from Parish Youth Vagator emerged victorious after a 5-4 win against Calangute Association in the tiebreaker to lift the 11th Reira Group football Trophy 2017. Rohan Kamli scored for Parish Youth Vagator in the 33rd minute and Criston Fernandes from Calangute Association scored in the 88th minute to equalize the game. Both the teams ended in regulation time at 1-1 and went straight into penalties to decide the winner.
A total of 16 local football teams contested for the trophy over the past few weeks. The Reira Group Football Trophy is organized annually for the last 11 consecutive years in order to discover and promote promising young footballers in the state.
Winning team Parish Youth Vagator received the Reira Group football Trophy 2017 from guest of honour Shahil Tavora, FC Goa football player and chief guest Oswald De Melo, Director, Classic Squares Reality Pvt. Ltd. Also present at the finals were Eknath Oraskar, Sarpanch of Saligao, Darryl Pereira, Managing Director of Reira Group, along with Mario Xavier, Director, Reira Group.
Said FC Goa’s footballer Sahil Tavora, guest of honour at the event, It is a good initiative by Darryl Pereira to organize tournaments like these that encourage the village boys to participate. It is great to see such a talent on field. Congratulations to both the teams who played an excellent game.
