Born on August 08, 1981, in Valbella, Switzerland, Roger Federer is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He turned professional in 1998 and has won 20 Grand Slams in his two and a half decades career. These include eight Wimbledon Championship titles, six Australian Open, five US Open, and one French Open title. After winning the Australian Open title in 2018 he became the first first man to win 20 major singles titles and subsequently the oldest ATP world number one at age 36. Among his achievements are also the six ATP Tour Finals titles, which is the season-ending tournament featuring the top eight players in the world followed by two Olympic medals; gold in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012. The former Swiss international is also the first men's singles player to have reached ten consecutive Grand Slam tournament finals and a total of 31 Grand Slam finals. He has spent the second-most time at the top of the ATP Rankings at 310 weeks. He did not play in a singles tournament post Wimbledon 2021 and announced his retirement from professional tennis in 2022 at the Laver Cup. The Swiss played his final match (1750th) partnering rival Rafael Nadal in the men's doubles. Federer has also played an integral role in leading Switzerland to victory in the Davis Cup, an international team competition. He helped Switzerland win the Davis Cup title in 2014, marking the country's first-ever Davis Cup championship.
