What is the wildcard chip in Fantasy Premier League?
It is one of the special cards that one can play in the heavily popular football game
Fantasy Premier League is popular across the globe and millions of users play the game every season. The fantasy game for the Premier League is very competitive and has many interesting strategic ways that can aid the managers in their quest of collecting points, outscore their competition in mini-leagues and reach higher places in overall rankings. There are special chips that the managers can opt for to get a slight advantage.
These chips are bench boost, triple captain, wildcard and a free hit. Each chip has special features that allow Fantasy Premier League managers to increase their chances of scoring points for the game week they use them.
The wildcard is a very popular special chip that can make a huge difference. It is vital to know when to use it and what benefits it provides. Here is a look at the wildcard chip in Fantasy Premier League:
The Wildcard
The wildcard chip allows an FPL manager to make free unlimited transfers in a game week. Usually, there is only one free transfer per game week and the managers can save another to make it two. Any additional transfers cost a deduction of four points. However, playing the wildcard chip can avert any points deduction and the user can make unlimited transfers to their team.

The wildcard chip can be played twice in a season, the first becomes available from the first game week and the second becomes available just prior to the January transfer window. Once the manager decides to opt for the wildcard, it cannot be cancelled. All the saved transfers are also lost and the user gets back to one free transfer from the next game week.
Benefits
As aforementioned, the main benefit of the wildcard chip is that it allows unlimited free transfers for one game week. One can avoid deducting points to make changes to their lineup if many of their chosen players become injured or struggle with form.
There is a difference between wildcard and free hit chips. While the transfers made using wildcard are permanent, the free hit allows for unlimited transfers which revert after that particular game week and it is available once a season, unlike the wildcard which is available twice. Of the two wildcards, the other becomes available as soon as the first one is used by the FPL managers.
Some of the best occasions to use the wildcard is after an international break as it presents a good opportunity to bring in-form players to the lineup and cast out injured players.
