It is one of the special cards that one can play in the heavily popular fantasy football game.
Premier League is one of the most popular leagues in the world and the Fantasy Premier League’s popularity is proportional to it. When it comes to fantasy football leagues, then the FPL is up there at the summit. Played by millions of people all over the world. There are many ways in the game through which the users can aid their teams, such as the triple captain, bench boost and free hit.
Each card has a special ability that can make all the difference in a fantasy manager’s campaign. While triple captaincy can triple your captain’s score. Bench boost can include the points of the players on the bench in the total points for a game week. The free hit chip has a very special effect.
Here is a look at what the free hit chip is in the Fantasy Premier League:
The Free Hit
By using the free hit chip, a manager can replace their entire squad for that game week. However, their previous 15-man line-up is returned at the start of the game week for the next deadline. In simple terms, a fantasy manager can change the entire squad for one game week using the free hit chip.
This is particularly helpful when there are several players out of contention owing to injuries. If there is a double game week or when the fixtures are aligned in a way where the users need multiple new players and cannot afford to make multiple transfers that would reduce their total points.

The Free Hit chip can be used only once a season. It is worth noting that a second free hit chip was provided for the 2020-21 season. This was due to the cancellation of fixtures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Once a user confirms the usage of free hit while making transfers, it cannot be undone. Another important feature of the free hit that the users must be wary of is that one’s saved free transfers are nullified. Post the usage of the free hit chip, the users will return to having one free transfer in a game week, instead of two if they had saved them.
Advantages of Free Hit
While wildcard allows you to make unlimited transfers in a game week, they are permanent. On the other hand, free hit transfers are temporary and revert after the game week where the free hit is opted for.
It can also be used to rethink one’s strategy during double game weeks as mentioned already, where any number of particular teams are playing twice and their players can be brought in for one game week thanks to the free hit chip. Furthermore, one can use free hit to recruit differentials, players that enjoy less ownership and can score points owing to favourable fixtures.
