The Italian side will face a tough challenge in Bayer Leverkusen who will be full of confidence.

Gian Piero Gasperini is leading Atalanta into their first-ever European final. La Dea will try to topple the newly crowned German champions Bayer Leverkusen or as they call them nowadays – ‘Neverlusen’ – in the Europa League final. Meaning, that they will continue their hunt for a major trophy since 1963 in the final.

Having recently lost the Coppa Italia decider to Juventus, Gasperini could be swayed to shuffle the pack. Here is how the Black and Blues can line up as they are now travel-bound to the Irish capital aiming to end a long search for silverware.

Atalanta predicted lineup (Formation: 3-4-2-1)

Juan Musso (Goalkeeper)

Having fallen down the pecking order to Carnesecchi this season, Juan Musso has still got a bold presence in between the sticks. During the 11 Europa League games he has played for La Dea, he has managed to keep four clean sheets while only conceding just eight goals.

Berat Djimsiti (Centre-Back)

Berat Djimsiti has been rock solid without any lapse in concentration throughout the team’s European campaign, bar one – giving away a penalty against Liverpool.

But that has not stopped the team from reaching the final. The 31-year-old Djimsiti has been vital as he has featured in 51 matches for Atalanta this season.

Isak Hien (Centre-Back)

Although Isak Hien was expected to kick start his time at Atalanta in full flow, the Swede has rather had a season that he would want to forget.

But he has earned the trust of Gasperini and his fellow center-backs. Now, the footballing gods have presented him with a chance to redeem himself as he wants the fans to get behind him.

Giovanni Bonfanti (Centre-Back)

Italy might have just produced another young and bold defender. The 21-year-old Milan-born defender has all the skills to make a big name for himself in the long run.

Fans will be hoping that he does not succumb to the pressure of filling in for the experienced defender, Toloi – who is a doubt for the game due to a thigh injury.

Davide Zappacosta (Right Wing Back)

Davide Zappacosta has been crucial for Atalanta this season more than the numbers. His work rate is what differentiates him from the others. In 30 league games, he has scored twice – close to his expected goals (xG) of 2.5. Averaging 0.9 shots per match with 29 total shots, he effectively contributes both offensively and defensively.

Ederson (Midfielder)

Ederson will be vital for Atalanta in their final against Leverkusen. He is a box-to-box midfield player. Unlike traditional Brazilian sitting midfielders, he thrives in covering the entire pitch, contributing both offensively and defensively with relentless energy. ‘The Engine’ for Gasperini’s La Dea has also chipped in with seven goals this season.

Teun Koopmeiners (Midfielder)

Primarily, Koopmeiners can excel in defensive midfield, attacking midfield, and central midfield – making him a top-tier midfield option. His attacking contributions have been particularly impressive, with 14 goals and five assists in all competitions.

This versatility has been crucial for Atalanta, especially as they reached the Europa League semi-finals after a 3-1 aggregate win over Liverpool. Koopmeiners’ ability to influence the game in multiple positions makes him a key player as Atalanta aims for silverware this season.

Matteo Ruggeri (Left Wing Back)

Another engine in the team is the young Ruggeri. He does not seem to run out of steam while he is on that green patch of grass. From a young lad to a man Matteo and a footballer Ruggeri, the 21-year-old has shown his skills playing for the senior men’s team. With five assists and two goals in 45 appearances, he has the full backing of the fans and the gaffer.

Charles De Ketelaere (Forward)

Charles De Ketelaere scored in Atalanta’s 2-0 win over Lecce, helping secure the Champions League spot. The goal took his tally to 14 goals and nine assists in 47 games.

Proving that he has thrived under Gian Piero Gasperini. The 23-year-old Belgian was apologetic for not receiving to similar heights at AC Milan, but he’s found new life in Bergamo.

Ademola Lookman (Forward)

Ademola Lookman has been in impressive goal-scoring form for Atalanta this season. The Niger has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists, making him the club’s second top-scorer after Scamacca.

Despite his form, he has only started five of the last 10 matches since mid-April. But Gasperini, with his experience, knows how important the chemistry of his forwards could be.

Gianluca Scamacca (Striker)

He did not get the respect at West Ham that he deserved, so Scamacca moved to greener pastures in Italy. But how well has he faired? From single-handedly quashing Liverpool’s hopes to being hailed as a top striker in Bergamo, Scamacca’s had a fairytale of a season.

He is the club’s top scorer with 18 goals and has also provided another six assists to show for. The dream of getting their hands on their first-ever European trophy would require their starman to light Dublin with fireworks.
