DR Congo announce squad for upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in June 2024; Yoanne Wissa included

DR Congo will play in the World Cup qualifiers
For the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Senegal and Togo, Sebastien Desabre has selected a 25-man roster. Axel Tuanzebe, defender for Ipswich Town, a recently promoted English Premier League team, received his initial call-up to the national squad.
The 26-year-old Axel Tuanzebe, who played youth international for England, has chosen to change his nationality since he isn’t getting enough playing time.
Yoanne Wissa of Brentford, Samy Moutoussamy of Nantes, and Arthur Masuak of Besiktas are on the roster. Named are Marseille captain Chancel Mbemba and attacker Fiston Mayele of Pyramids.
On Thursday, June 6, the Congolese play the Senegalese in Dakar, and three days later, the Togolese visit Kinshasa.
Tuanzebe, 26, has not yet earned a cap for his natal country. He changed his international affiliation in March from England, his childhood home, where he had competed at the U19, U20, and U21 levels.
DR Congo have taken one and lost the other of their first two games, placing them third in their qualifying group, one point below favourites Senegal and Sudan in second. The victor advances straight to the World Cup finals, while the runner-up advances via a play-off.
After being freed by Manchester United at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season, Tuanzebe signed with the Blues in September.
The right-back, or centre-half, has a contract that expires this summer, but the Blues have the option to extend it for another season. He scored one goal and made three substitute appearances in his 19 starts for Town last season.
With 28 games at the highest level, 19 for the Red Devils and 9 for Aston Villa, Tuanzebe is the player in the current Blues lineup with arguably the maximum Premier League experience.
