Inter Miami forward Luis Suarez hopes to retire with longtime friend Lionel Messi

Both players’ deals with the MLS club expire at the end of the year.

Luis Suárez, a forward for Inter Miami, has stated that he and his longtime teammate Lionel Messi would like to retire together. Although he has insisted that neither player’s future is dependent on the other.

“I think we’re both quite old enough at this point. Each of us will make our decision, whatever is right for each of us, thinking about our personal well-being,” Suárez said on Tuesday.

“In my case, I’m not going to make a decision [right now]. I can tell you that I would love to retire with him because we’ve been talking about retiring together for years, and it could happen. It could happen, but it also depends on my renewal, his renewal, and well, each of us will make the right decision at the right time.”

The contracts of Suárez and Messi with Inter Miami will expire at the end of 2025. The club and Messi are still in talks for an extension, according to ESPN, and both sides are keen to continue their relationship both on and off the field.

Suárez emphasised his dedication to helping Inter Miami develop as a team before stating that he prefers to concentrate on the present rather than make decisions about the future at this time.

Suárez and Inter Miami will now get ready for tonight’s Leagues Cup quarterfinal matchup against Tigres UANL at Chase Stadium. Despite working apart from the rest of the team due to a persistent fitness issue, head coach Javier Mascherano claimed Messi will not be sidelined for the game.

In the second half of Saturday night’s 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy, Messi made his comeback from a “minor” muscular ailment. Mascherano did acknowledge that Messi didn’t feel completely at ease while playing, despite recording one goal and one assist.
