Italy announce final 26-man squad for Euro 2024; Ivan Provedel left out

The defending champions will start the tournament against Albania.
Midfielder Nicolò Barella was included in Luciano Spalletti’s final 26-man roster for Italy’s 2024 European Championship, even though he missed their most recent match due to injury.
A pivotal player in Spalletti’s plans, Barella missed Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Turkey due to a slight muscular strain, but this did not prevent the Inter Milan player from getting called up.
Ivan Provedel is the goalie who has been dropped out of the Italy national team squad, while Federico Gatti, who was added to the preliminary squad following the expulsion of defenders Francesco Acerbi and Giorgio Scalvini, retains his spot in the group.
The player has been instructed to keep up his training because Alex Meret, the keeper for Napoli, may not be fully fit to play for Italy soon.
The other two players from the tentative squad who are not playing are Samuele Ricci and Riccardo Orsolini. The Bologna forward did not perform well enough to secure a spot in the final roster, despite Orsolini starting the scoreless draw with Turkey.
Spalletti’s roster includes his Bologna colleague Riccardo Calafiori, who made his debut for his country when he came on as a late substitute in that match.
Nicolo Fagioli, a midfielder for Juventus who recently served a seven-month ban for breaking betting regulations, is also included in the Italy squad; he earned his second cap against Turkey by playing off the bench. The Italians will take on Albania in their opening Euro 2024 group game.
