The French superstar sustained an injury while on international duty.

The withdrawal of 26-year-old Kylian Mbappé from France‘s final FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Azerbaijan has drawn intense criticism in France.

After leading his country to the 2026 World Cup for next summer with a 4-0 victory over Ukraine last Thursday, the Real Madrid forward left the Les Bleus squad. He then missed the travel to Azerbaijan for what turned out to be a dead rubber.

Ankle irritation was mentioned in an FFF communiqué. Real Madrid’s medical team will investigate it further. Suspicions of a “diplomatic injury” grew when Kylian Mbappé chose to travel to Dubai rather than return to the club right away.

Philippe Diallo, the president of the FFF, has attempted to downplay the incident by telling L’Équipe that it is “non-topic.” The captain of France has now returned to Spain, but according to L’Équipe, he did not participate in the training session on Wednesday. Similarly, for a fact, all other Real Madrid’s international players also missed out.

Kylian Mbappé is anticipated to resume training on Friday and is still scheduled to play against Elche this weekend. It seems Xabi Alonso has given some international players additional time off.

The attacker did not participate in group training and did not even travel to Valdebebas to have his right ankle, which had been hurting for some weeks, examined, according to information provided by L’Équipe.

The club purposefully gave him an additional day off. He is expected to rejoin the team tomorrow. To make sure Kylian Mbappé is prepared to start on Sunday against Elche, Madrid have a simple game plan that consists of two complete training sessions on Friday and Saturday.
